First Flight

Another entry to my retro warfare period pieces, and this time in a two-parter format!
I finished this first part months back at this point, and didn't get around to doing the second until now. I had the urge to just post the first one immediately and the second whenever, but I felt it told a better story posted together.
I'm looking forward to doing more of this type of multi-part format again soon, since I had an absolute blast doing these.
